Tips for Credential Recognition
- Start early: Some assessments take 12-20 weeks. Begin 6-12 months before your intended move
- Keep originals safe: Never send original certificates unless absolutely required. Use certified copies
- University transcripts: These must usually be sent directly from your university in a sealed envelope. Contact the registrar well in advance
- Course descriptions: Some bodies (like Engineers Australia) require detailed course descriptions/syllabi. Request these from your university faculty
- EIZ membership: If you are an engineer, maintain your Engineering Institute of Zimbabwe membership. The Washington Accord recognition is through EIZ
- ACCA advantage: If you hold ACCA (completed in Zimbabwe), it is directly recognised in the UK, Ireland, and many other countries without additional assessment
- Multiple assessments: If applying to multiple countries, you may need separate assessments for each
Frequently Asked Questions
WES recognises all ZIMCHE-accredited Zimbabwean universities. If your specific programme is not in their database, WES will still assess it but may request additional documentation (detailed syllabi, course descriptions, university accreditation proof). Private colleges and some professional diplomas may need verification from the Zimbabwe Ministry of Higher Education first. You can also try IQAS as an alternative ECA body.
WES ECA reports for Canada are valid for 5 years from the date of issue. UK ENIC statements do not expire but some employers/institutions prefer recent ones. Australian skills assessments are typically valid for 3 years. German ZAB assessments do not expire. Professional registrations (NMC, AHPRA, etc.) are typically annual and require ongoing renewal.
