Victoria Falls 2026 Travel Guide

Victoria Falls, known locally as Mosi-oa-Tunya ("The Smoke That Thunders"), is the world’s largest sheet of falling water at 1,708 metres wide and 108 metres high. A UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World, it straddles the border between Zimbabwe and Zambia. The Zimbabwe side offers the most spectacular views, with 75% of the falls visible from the Zimbabwe rainforest trail.

Why Choose the Zimbabwe Side?

While both countries offer views of Victoria Falls, the Zimbabwe side is widely considered superior:

  • 75% of the falls are visible from the Zimbabwe Rainforest Walk, compared to about 25% from Zambia
  • 16 viewpoints along the 1.7km rainforest trail, each offering a different perspective
  • Danger Point and Cataract View provide the most dramatic photo opportunities
  • Better infrastructure — Victoria Falls town has more hotels, restaurants, and tour operators
  • Lower costs — accommodation and activities are generally cheaper on the Zimbabwe side

The Zambia side offers the famous Devil’s Pool (September-December when water is low) and the Knife-Edge Bridge walk, making a day trip across the border worthwhile.

FAQ

It depends on your nationality. Many nationalities can get a visa on arrival ($30 single entry, $45 double entry). The KAZA UniVisa ($50) allows you to visit both the Zimbabwe and Zambia sides. Check our visa-free countries page for details.

Yes. Victoria Falls town is one of the safest destinations in Southern Africa. Tourism is the main industry and visitors are well-looked after. Normal precautions apply — don’t walk alone at night in unlit areas, use hotel safes for valuables. The Rainforest Walk is well-maintained with barriers at viewpoints.

Zimbabwe offers the best views (75% of the falls visible), better accommodation options, and lower prices. Zambia offers Devil’s Pool (low water season only) and the Knife-Edge Bridge. Ideally, visit both — the KAZA UniVisa allows this. If you can only choose one, Zimbabwe is the better choice for most visitors.
